1, Holiday Cultural Festival

December 15th (Sat) 4:00PM ~ JIS Auditorium

Gift Exchange: Secret Santa ($15.00)

Each student will draw the name of a classmate and bring a gift for him or her.

Place a name tag on the gift. For example: To Dear Kaori Ozaki (Ozaki Class).

No food, Please!!

Please bring the gifts ($15.00) to the teacher by December 8th with the name tag attached.

Potluck Diner: Please bring enough food for everyone to enjoy this party.

8 ~10 servings per student

Please use disposable plates to facilitate an easy clean up.

Please response the below Potluck & Volunteer sheet to the room parent by December 1st` by Email.

Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS) News, March 2012

1,  Undokai, Field Athletic Day & WLA Cherry Festival

  Date: March 3 (Sat) 9:00 AM ~ 12:30 PM

  Place: Stoner Park

This year marks 100 years since the first “Sakura Matsuri” Cherry Festival was held in Washington DC.  During cherry blossom time the WLA Community Center and Sawtelle Gakuin will host a festival in conjunction with the Gakuin’s annual Field Athletic Day.  The event will be held at WLA’s Stoner Park which is well known for its cherry blossoms.

2, Manzana One Day Field Trip

 Date: May 19(Sat), Visco, Okada, Takemori, Yano Class

 Details in departure time, itinerary, fee, and so forth will  be provided later.  This field trip is sponsored by Satelle Gakuin.  We ask all students from the above classes’ to attend as one of our school activities.  We also welcome parents.  Please join us on this trip.

3. Recycling Project

  We received the total of $35.26 in January and I put the proceeds into the bank for the Building Fund.  Thank you all for your participation.

February 4th, the first Saturday of the month, is our collection day.  I again ask for your cooperation.

Japanese Institute of Sawtelle, Newsletter January 2012    Happy New Year!!

 

1, New Year’s Event “ Oshogatsu “

    There will be “ Oshogatsu” this Saturday, January 7th at our school. The students will experience Japanese culture such as Japanese Badminton(Hane Tsuki), calligraphy and Karuta. We are looking for a volunteer who can help Mochi preparation at the kitchen from 10:30AM. If you will be able to help it, please come on Jan 7 at 10:30AM.

 

2, Recycle Project

     Thank you for your participation in bringing cans and plastic bottles last month.

It was successful. We collected $12.50 which will be added to our new building fund.

I have to inform you that glass bottles, such as wine and others made with glass were not accepted at the recycle center. We now collect only cans(CA cash refund) and plastic bottles that contained water since the recycle center did not accept plastic milk, juice, shampoo or detergent bottles.

Next collection day will be on 7th of January.

 

3, Speech Contest

  Place: School Auditorium

  Date: Feb 4, 2012(Sat): Ozaki, Hayakawa, Visco, Takemori Class

            Feb 11, 2012(Sat): Sakai, Sato, Okada, Yano Class

  Time: 4:00PM ~ Students must be present at School by 3:45PM.

 

Group  A : Students don’t have any difficultly expressing their opinions in Japanese

                  and are immersed in Japanese outside of school or at home.

  Group B: Students who have limited access or exposure to Japanese outside of school.

                  Students within a group will complete against each other and awards will

be given for the best contestants in each group.

 

  Award: Speeches will be judged upon the following:

1. Accuracy, vocabulary, and grammar  2. Fluency  3. Delivery

4. Content  5. Time limitation (3 minutes)

6. Memorization (Memorization of the speech is desirable, however speakers may carry their drafts, but the student who memorized the speech will get the highest points.)

      

All students in Ozaki & Sakai Class will receive Achievement Trophy.

In honor of their hard work during practices and for their achievements on the stage,

the school plans to reward students with award medals.  There will be no contest

among Sakai & Ozaki Class students and every student will receive the same award medal.

3.Recycle Project

      As you know we are in process of getting a permit from the city for our new school building. It is a matter of time.

What we have to do now is move to the next step which is fundraising for this project.

   We need a large amount of money, consequently, we are asking everyone’s co-operation to make our dream comes true. As one of our fundraising functions,

   we decided to collect recycle objects, such as plastic bottles and aluminum cans. This is not a big money maker, but we believe every student’s co-operation

   is important.

 

   The collection day will the first Saturday of each month. Please rinse and dry them before students bring them to school.

   The first collection day will be the 3rd of December.

 

4.Winter Break: Saturday, December 24&December 31,2011
