1, New Year’s Event “ Oshogatsu “
There will be “ Oshogatsu” this Saturday, January 7th at our school. The students will experience Japanese culture such as Japanese Badminton(Hane Tsuki), calligraphy and Karuta. We are looking for a volunteer who can help Mochi preparation at the kitchen from 10:30AM. If you will be able to help it, please come on Jan 7 at 10:30AM.
2, Recycle Project
Thank you for your participation in bringing cans and plastic bottles last month.
It was successful. We collected $12.50 which will be added to our new building fund.
I have to inform you that glass bottles, such as wine and others made with glass were not accepted at the recycle center. We now collect only cans(CA cash refund) and plastic bottles that contained water since the recycle center did not accept plastic milk, juice, shampoo or detergent bottles.
Next collection day will be on 7th of January.
3, Speech Contest
Place: School Auditorium
Date: Feb 4, 2012(Sat): Ozaki, Hayakawa, Visco, Takemori Class
Feb 11, 2012(Sat): Sakai, Sato, Okada, Yano Class
Time: 4:00PM ~ Students must be present at School by 3:45PM.
Group A : Students don’t have any difficultly expressing their opinions in Japanese
and are immersed in Japanese outside of school or at home.
Group B: Students who have limited access or exposure to Japanese outside of school.
Students within a group will complete against each other and awards will
be given for the best contestants in each group.
Award: Speeches will be judged upon the following:
1. Accuracy, vocabulary, and grammar 2. Fluency 3. Delivery
4. Content 5. Time limitation (3 minutes)
6. Memorization (Memorization of the speech is desirable, however speakers may carry their drafts, but the student who memorized the speech will get the highest points.)
All students in Ozaki & Sakai Class will receive Achievement Trophy.
In honor of their hard work during practices and for their achievements on the stage,
the school plans to reward students with award medals. There will be no contest
among Sakai & Ozaki Class students and every student will receive the same award medal.
